If you get new work using ProZ.com, 7% of what you earn from that work goes to maintaining your membership in this first year. After that, the ProZ.com team hopes you will have seen the return on investment is more than worth it, and you can transition your membership to the regular 120/180 USD per year up front.
By receiving payment via ProZ Pay™, you will be able to pay for your ProZ.com membership once you are already getting work and payment. When you receive a payment, 7% will be set aside for payment on your membership automatically.
For payments from clients which happen via another payment method, it's the honor system. The ProZ.com team respects you as a professional, and knows you will conduct yourself professionally. You will still be able to report those payments through ProZ Pay™, so that they get counted.
7% of nothing is nothing! That is what both you and ProZ.com will earn if you are not successful. Activating some of the products and services included in membership costs money, and the ProZ.com team cannot work for free any more than you can. But by putting up your membership money for you, the ProZ.com team is betting on you and your success. The ProZ.com team feel the risk is worth it, and that 7% is a reasonable return on their investment in you.
To put it another way: you invest no money, and get a 93% return on the investment the ProZ.com team will make in you.

No. Receiving payment via ProZ Pay™ is not a requisite for getting this deal. You only need to set up your payment preferences with ProZ Pay™ to allow for its use as a payment method if needed.
Yes. If you get new work through ProZ.com for which ProZ Pay™ is not a payment option, you will still be able to report client payment that can be used towards paying for your membership.

Just cancel your membership. You can cancel your membership at any time before or after the 12 months have passed. If you received no new work by using ProZ.com, you will have paid nothing.
A discount would not make much sense when the payment is a commission of what you make through the site.
If you prefer to invest in membership the traditional way and purchase ProZ.com membership up front with a discount, however, you can do so here.
No payment or payment information will be requested of you in order to start your membership.
Once your membership is activated, you will receive an email confirmation that your membership is active, along with a detail of your membership benefits, and some recommendations for starting to make the best use of the services and benefits that come with your membership. You will also be asked to set aside 30 - 60 minutes for a call with a member of the ProZ.com site staff-- your Freelancer success representative-- at a day and time that is convenient for you. During this call, ProZ.com staff want to get a better understanding of who you are, where you are professionally, and where you want to go in your career. The purpose of this is to better personalize your ProZ.com experience and make recommendations about actions you can take to meet your professional objectives and become more successful by using ProZ.com.
After this initial conversation, ProZ.com site staff may ask that you take further action. For example, adding certain information or material to your profile, applying to the Certified PRO Network or a Pool of specialists, getting trained in a CAT tool or in an area of the business where you are not yet trained, etc., depending on where you need to go in your career. Note that in the case of Plus membership, a free CAT tool and a training video library are already included, so these actions would also be at no monetary cost to you. All recommendations are geared towards increasing your contact with new clients.
When you begin to receive new client contact and work through your use of ProZ.com, it's time to pay back the investment ProZ.com site staff have made in you. Seven percent (7%) of what you earn through this new client contact goes to ProZ.com.
Earnings can be reported in one of two ways:
- If clients pay you using ProZ Pay™, it is automatic, and the 7% of each payment can be set aside without any further action on your part.
- For payments made not using ProZ Pay™, you will be asked to report them. The 7% will be calculated, and you can choose to make the payment to ProZ.com using the payment method of your choice either per payment, per quarter, or at the end of the year.
Both the payments you receive via ProZ Pay™ as well as the option to report other payments will be available to you in the "My payments" dashboard, at https://www.proz.com/get-paid
ProZ.com site staff will check in with you periodically throughout the year, to see how you are doing. In these opportunities they may recommend new tactics, changes, or improvements, based on how things have gone so far and what your goals are. Of course, you do not need to wait for staff to contact you for a check-in: if you have questions or doubts or need help, you can contact your Freelancer success representative at any time-- they are there to help you be successful.
You are free to cancel your ProZ.com membership at any time during the year.
If, at the end of your first year, you consider your ProZ.com membership experience was worth it, you will be offered the chance to renew your membership using the traditional yearly subscription for membership.
If, at any point in your first year, you decide to transition from this membership deal into a traditional yearly subscription for the membership type of your choice, you may do so. Just let your Freelancer success representative know and they can get you set up.
IMPORTANT: This program represents a large commitment of both time and money for ProZ.com. If at any point in the year your Freelancer success representative deems that your investment of time and energy in your success at ProZ.com is not up to the task, your membership may be terminated at that point, in order to allow them to focus on other members. If upon applying for this membership deal ProZ.com site staff deem that you are not in conditions to benefit from membership at ProZ.com, they will inform you of this and your membership will not be activated.
