As part of ProZ.com's 25th anniversary celebration, we are sharing stories from our long-time members. Today, we spotlight Veronica Ducrey, a dedicated translator from Buenos Aires, Argentina, who has been a part of the ProZ.com community since the early days.

The beginning

Veronica Ducrey's journey with ProZ.com began in 1999 when she was a young translator looking to expand her knowledge and network within the industry. At that time, she had only been living in Buenos Aires for a few years and was eager to connect with other professionals.

Veronica Ducrey: "I was very young and had been working as a translator for a few years. I was looking for opportunities to learn from other translators and about the industry. I don't remember exactly how I found out about ProZ.com, but I attended a meeting in Buenos Aires with the founder. It was an exciting time to connect with others and access information from around the world."

Embracing technology

Over the years, Veronica has seen the translation industry evolve significantly, especially with the advent of technology and AI. She has adapted to these changes, finding ways to integrate new tools into her work while maintaining the human touch that is essential in translation.

Despite the challenges posed by AI, Veronica continues to find value in ProZ.com's resources, particularly the extensive-term database and community support.

Veronica Ducrey: "ProZ.com’s term database is invaluable. I often find the most unusual terms there, and having answers from colleagues reassures my choices in translations. It’s a fantastic resource."

Expanding horizons

Veronica's journey is marked by her adaptability and continuous learning. In addition to her work as a translator, she has trained as an interpreter and a tour guide, broadening her professional horizons.

Veronica Ducrey: "ProZ.com is always there, but I haven’t always made use of it. It’s a shame because I’ve been a member for so long. I remember when they opened an office here in La Plata. It’s part of my journey."

Veronica’s story is a testament to the importance of community, adaptability, and passion in the ever-evolving world of translation
