Our 3 favorite key takeaways

We had an incredible start to Language Talks yesterday with several hundred viewers tuning in live and an engaging networking session that followed. Here are three key takeaways from our discussion with Greta Craxi and Cintia Kanowitz led by Tanya Quintieri. We believe these are not only valuable for freelance translators, but for project managers as well:

  1. Effective management of freelance translators and interpreters
Greta and Cintia emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with freelance translators. They shared best practices, such as setting clear expectations, maintaining open communication, and providing regular feedback. Both highlighted the benefits of having frequent check-ins and being responsive to the needs and feedback of freelancers to ensure high-quality outcomes.

  2. Quality assurance and use of technology
The panelists discussed their quality assurance processes, which include the use of translation management systems (TMS) and computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools. They stressed the importance of having comprehensive reference materials, including style guides and terminology lists, to maintain consistency. Additionally, they highlighted the value of internal reviews by native speakers who understand the industry, ensuring the final product meets the highest standards.

  3. The role of aI in localization
Greta and Cintia addressed the increasing role of artificial intelligence in localization. While AI and machine translation tools can be beneficial, they agreed that the human element remains crucial in translation projects. Human translators provide the cultural sensitivity and context that AI cannot replicate, making the final quality check by a skilled linguist indispensable for accurate and culturally appropriate translations.
